Getting Started

Everything you need to go from new hire to certified provider. The full certification process from start to finish.

Choose Your Track

Pick the certification that matches your role. EMT is required before Paramedic. NJSP BLS is a separate track for State Police personnel.

Certification Pathway
1
Study the Training Modules Self-paced
Read through all modules for your certification track using the links above. Each module has a "Mark Complete" button โ€” use it to track your progress. The hub page shows a progress bar as you go.

Don't rush โ€” the exam pulls directly from module content. Take your time with the A&P Foundation if you need a refresher on anatomy and physiology.

Use the Practice Quiz (available from each hub) to drill yourself before the real exam. You can take it as many times as you want โ€” no score is recorded.
2
Pass the Written Exam Online
When you're ready, take the Final Exam from your track's hub page. You need 80% or higher to pass (24/30 for EMT/Paramedic, 8/10 for NJSP).

Your score is automatically saved to Supabase and a notification is sent to the FTO team. You can retake the exam if you don't pass โ€” there's no penalty for retakes, but review the missed topics first.

After passing, use /my-certs in Discord to confirm your exam score was recorded.
3
Complete a Psychomotor Evaluation In-game with FTO
Contact an FTO to schedule your psychomotor evaluation โ€” an in-game assessment where an FTO observes you handling a simulated call. They'll evaluate your patient assessment, protocol adherence, and clinical decision-making.

You don't need to be perfect, but you do need to demonstrate that you understand the protocols and can apply them under pressure. Review the Protocol Reference beforehand.

Once you pass, the FTO logs it via /log-psychomotor and you'll receive a Discord DM confirming it was recorded.
4
Complete a Supervised Ride-Along In-game with FTO
Your ride-along is a supervised operational shift where an FTO rides with you on real calls. Unlike the psychomotor eval, this is about real-world application โ€” how you handle actual patients in active scenarios.

The FTO is there to support you, not judge. Ask questions. If you're unsure about a protocol call, say so โ€” that's what training is for.

The FTO logs it via /log-ridealong after the session. If all three requirements are now complete, the bot will notify both of you.
5
Receive Your Certification Issued by FTO
Once all three requirements are complete (exam + psychomotor + ride-along), an FTO will run /issue-cert. You'll receive a Discord DM with your certificate number, certification details, and a link to view and print your cert card.

Your cert is now active and publicly verifiable at the cert lookup page. Anyone can verify your cert number using /cert-info in Discord.

Paramedic track: You'll need an active EMT cert before starting Paramedic training. The process is identical โ€” complete the ALS modules, pass the Paramedic exam, and complete a second set of psychomotor and ride-along evaluations at the ALS level.
Pro tip: Use /set-roblox in Discord early to link your Roblox username to your account. This makes it much easier for FTOs to log your completions without having to manually enter your name each time. Run it as soon as you pass your exam.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the whole process take?โ–ผ
It depends entirely on FTO availability and how quickly you study. The written exam is self-paced โ€” some people knock it out in an hour, others take a few days. The psychomotor eval and ride-along require scheduling time with an FTO, which can take anywhere from a day to a few weeks depending on how active FTOs are. Check the Discord training channel or DM an FTO directly to schedule.
What happens if I fail the exam?โ–ผ
Nothing bad โ€” there's no penalty for retaking. Review the topics you missed (the results page shows which categories you got wrong) and retake whenever you're ready. There's no waiting period. FTOs can see your exam history via /exam-history but multiple attempts are normal and expected.
Can I skip straight to Paramedic if I'm certified IRL?โ–ผ
Possibly โ€” that's a decision for an FTO or the Medical Director. If you have an active IRL certification (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, etc.), contact an FTO who can use /force-cert to bypass the full process. Bring documentation or be prepared to verify your credentials. You may still be asked to demonstrate ERLC-specific knowledge even with an IRL exemption.
Do certs expire?โ–ผ
No โ€” NJRP EMS certifications do not have an expiration date. Once you're certified, you're certified. If you're inactive for an extended period, an FTO may choose to revoke and require recertification at their discretion, but there's no automatic expiry system.
How do I find an FTO to schedule my eval?โ–ผ
Post in the training request channel in Discord, or DM an FTO directly. You can use /lookup @yourself to show your current progress and share it with an FTO so they can see exactly where you are in the process. The FTO team will respond โ€” if you haven't heard back in a few days, follow up.
What is the PCR system and do I need to use it right away?โ–ผ
The Patient Care Report system is how we document calls. Once you're certified, you're expected to submit a PCR after every patient contact. It takes about 2โ€“3 minutes after a call. Directive 08 (Documentation) requires it for all certified providers โ€” it's not optional. Practicing with it before you're certified is encouraged so it becomes second nature.
